This one day tour shows you the best of the best in Ulaanbaatar.

Mongolia is a country of ancient history dating back to over 2000 BC. Its history is connected to Chinese Great Wall, Atilla the Hun and of course, Chinggis Khaan. In addition, Mongolia might be the only country where half the population are nomads as it was in ancient times!

On this tour of the most visited museums in Ulaanbaatar you'll learn about Mongolia's rich history, culture and nature. Thousands of exhibits in the National and Natural History Museums unerath interesting gems of knowledge. In addition, you'll be well attracted by the architectural solution of Gandan Monastery and its 25m high statue of Buddha. This is a great way for travellers on a short visit to Ulaanbaatar City to be acquainted with the country.

After picking you up from your hotel in Ulaanbaatar city, we visit Sukhbaatar Square, the heart of the city. The statue of Sukhbaatar, the national hero, Parliament House, massive bronze statues of Chinggis Khaan and his famous successors of the Empire of Great Mongolia are one of the impressive sights of the city.

Then we visit Gandan Monastery. This monastery is one of Ulaanbaatar's most attractive sights and the biggest Buddhist functioning monastery in Mongolia. You enjoy the sight of the 25m high, 20-tonne copper and golden colored statue of Buddha placed in the main temple.

After Gandan Monastery, we visit The National History Museum. The museum was established in 1924. Currently it has seven halls with exhibits showing the history of Mongols since the first arrival of humans to the Euro-Asian steppes. There are more than 46,000 exhibits of archaeological, historical and ethnographical interest. Main attractions are household and religious items of nomadic culture, items of warfare etc.

Option: You can choose a different museum such as Natural History Museum or Bogd Khaan's Palace Museum etc.

After the museum, you will be transferred to your hotel.



Participant guidelines

Bring an umbrella or rain coat/jacket if it is raining. This will make your trip more comfortable during outdoor visits such as at Sukhbaatar Square and Gandan Monastery.

Extensions:

Extensions should be discussed at least one day before tour departure. Additional museums, sights (such as Choijin Lama Temple Museum, Zaisan Hill Memorial) and shopping activities can be added to the itinerary for a certain amount of fee.

In case of tour extension, a meal or lunch can be included too (it is not obligatory). The traveler will have to give a treat to the guide for the meal. There are several nice places to eat in Ulaanbaatar such as Modern Nomads Mongolian Restaurant - a well-run restaurant popular with both locals and tourists, offering an eclectic menu mix of traditional Mongolian fare with modern creations, all using local ingredients, Altai Mongolian Barbeque, fast food places, or canteens where you taste ordinary Mongolian meals such as shol (soup with mutton or beef), buuz (steamed dumpling), huushuur (fried pie with meat).
