Mongolia weather forecast

There are four well-defined seasons. Seasons can be categorized as summer (Jun, Jul, Aug), autumn (Sep, Oct, Nov), winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) and spring (Mar, Apr, May). Sunshine days make up over 200 days of the year. The temperature fluctuate greatly not only within the year but also diurnally. The climate is harsh continental with low precipitation. According to the last 60 years' metereological observation, average annual temperatures are around +8.5 C in the Gobi and -7.8 C in the mountainous areas. The extreme minimum temperature is -31 C to -52 C in January (in Uvs province) and the extreme maximum temperature in +28 C to +43.1 C in July (in Gobi region). Most precipitation occurs in June, July and August. The driest months are from November to March.

Mongolia's tourism industry is highly dependant from weather condition. Tourism peak period is from the end of June to the mid of August because this is the finest period to travel in countryside in terms of weather condition. From August, night temperature drops substantially in Khuvsgul Lake region to the north. The weather is still gentle and warm to travel to Gobi region although it is autumn in Mongolia.
